Step-by-Step: See Free PDF Lesson Plan

Step 1: First, make your own reusable gel-print plate by following the instructions in the GEL-PRINT refill. Set it in a tray and leave it for about 1½ hours to set.

Step 2: While the gel plate sets, make some foam stamps if you don’t already have them. You can cut shapes from EVA foam or printing foam and stick them onto cardboard.

Step 3: Once your gel plate is ready, roll a small amount of paint over the surface using a foam roller. Keep it thin – too much paint won’t print well.

Step 4: Press your foam stamps into the paint, then stamp onto white paper. Do this as many times as you like.

Step 5: Now take a fresh sheet of paper and press it firmly over the gel plate. Rub gently with your hand, lift the paper, and reveal your first print!

Step 6: If there’s still paint left on the plate, you can press another sheet for a second print, or roll more paint and keep going. Layering colours looks great.

Step 7: Once your prints are dry, cut them into fun popsicle shapes – two of each design.

Step 8: Stick an ice cream stick on the back of one print using tape. Then tape on a bit of string or fishing line at the top.

Step 9: Glue the second popsicle print on top to sandwich everything together.

Step 10: Tie the strings to a coat hanger or stick to make your mobile. That’s it – your Popsicle Mobile is ready to display!

Bright Tip:

To clean your gel plate, press paper onto it to lift any leftover paint – it’s that easy.

Conclusion

This activity lets kids explore monoprinting in a hands-on way. Making your own gel plate adds an extra layer of learning. It’s fun, reusable, and every print is unique. Great for both classrooms and creative time at home.
