Blown Dye Art Lesson for Kids with 5 Star EZI Dye
Today we’re going to create colourful, exciting, blown dye artworks. Kids will love this painting idea because it’s messy, fun, and full of creative surprises!

You will need:
Paper (thicker paper works best)
Food dye or 5 Star school art dye – primary colours are perfect (red, yellow, blue)
Drinking straws
Aprons and a cover sheet or newspapers
Paper towels

Let’s get started:
Set up a table for each group of children with their supplies.
Start with just two colours of dye at a time – artworks can get messy fast!
Use the straw to pick up a little dye and let it drop on the paper to make small puddles.
Blow gently through the straw to spread the dye across the paper.
Leave plenty of white space – it makes the colours pop!
Once the children are comfortable, try adding a third colour and see how they mix together.
Allow the artwork to dry completely.
Tips for success:
One colour can look amazing too, especially with lots of white space.
Gentle blowing gives the best designs.
Avoid over-soaking the paper.
Keep paper towels handy for spills.
These designs also make fantastic greeting cards!
Kids will enjoy experimenting with colours, seeing them swirl and blend, and discovering their own creative patterns.
